Email Viewer – preview video of upcoming new Gmail Keeper

By “new Gmail Keeper” I mean a completely rewritten version of this Gmail backup tool, I think you can tell by the new user interface.

The new email viewer is a simple, Gmail-Web-alike viewer for the backup data – including the Gmail labels, the email themselves and the email attachments (open with associated, external programs, eg your MS Word).

The brand new version of Gmail Keeper will also address many of the problems in the current version, for example, the 4GB zip file size limit will be gone. I’ll cover more details in the upcoming blog posts.

PS: There will be a slight price increase and the version for Google Apps will be separated and will be priced differently. So you might want to buy Gmail Keeper now and get the upgrade in your free upgrade period when this new version is out. And of course, there will be a special price for current GmailKeeper users.

BTW, the old plan for the new version of this gmail backup software was different – it was a run-locally-web-based software, and that plan had led to a new project of mine – LIVEditor (a real-time html/css/js code editor). And I changed my plan as you can see in the video. I’ll reveal more details on this in the future.

Backup all emails between two dates from a Gmail account to local harddisk with Gmail Keeper

Gmail Keeper has been allowing you select which folder/label to backup already, however, some users want  more control on what kind of emails they want to backup, so the new version released today introduced a new feature – allows you choose to backup only  emails received/sent between a date range.  Check the Gmail Keeper homepage right now!

Start from today I’ll post the release notes about Gmail Keeper here. Here are some other changes made  since the first version:

  1. Added a new context menu item to let you quickly locate both the network activity and backup/restore  log files in Windows Explorer, this smoothes the user feedback process.
  2. Fixed a bug which prevents labels those happened to be parent labels of other labels being backed up. For example, if you have 2 labels, one is called Friends while another is called Friends/Jack (note the slash symbol), the former were not be backed up.
  3. Fixed a bug which occurred when downloading email headers from a folder which contains a large amount (over several tens of thousands). This is because Gmail server is not designed to perfectly work with such backup operations performed by programs such as Gmail Keeper.  Anyway, we luckily found a way to solve it.
  4. Fixed occational error which is caused by an network problem with message ‘Your Gmail display langugage has changed to none-English language, try to edit the profile and identify Gmail folders manually.’
